James Lynx, de 49 años, era un oficial (piloto de LEV) en el ejército mundial de las Naciones Unidas; un día recibió una notificación de que su esposa, un científico marciano, había muerto durante un experimento de laboratorio. Odiado y resentido por dejarla ir, sus hijos lo culparon y lo echaron a un lado, deprimido y desesperado, James abandonó el servicio militar y tomó un trabajo como transportador entre la Tierra y Marte, tenía algunas esperanzas de que su esposa siguiera viva. y para encontrarla quería estar allí. Después de unos años, parecía haber perdido toda esperanza y haberse convertido en bebida, hasta que un día recibe un marco orbital con el nombre de "Dolores", enviado por su esposa muerta. Una vez más, se atreve a esperar y se embarca en una aventura salvaje y loca para encontrar la verdad y reunir a su familia.
